Forgive me readers, for I have sinned. It has been... 5 months since my last blog!? Though I can hardly believe that length of time has passed, it also feels like 10 seconds since I last sat here and pressed 'Publish'. Things have been pretty hectic, in both my work life and my personal one. … Continue reading Keeping Up Appearances

RQT Resolutions
It's that time of year again - back to school! I think teachers are very lucky, in many ways - today I'm specifically feeling lucky for the sense of 'New Year' that we get to have in the middle of an 'Old Year'. There' something about September, with a promise of a new timetable, new classes, new stationery, maybe even a new school... all these things are a new challenge. It gives us time to reflect on what we've done in the previous school year and how we'd like to make things better for ourselves and our students in the coming one.
Life as an NQT
Last week I was lucky enough to be asked to head back into University to deliver the 'Life as an NQT' lecture. When my old mentor got in touch to ask me to do it, I was really humbled - her thinking of me for something like that is a great compliment. Last year we … Continue reading Life as an NQT
My ‘Why’
It's been a while since I've sat and written anything here, because I have been very busy just being a teacher. I'm not yet at that "Teacher and also a real life person" stage yet, I don't think. I'm getting there - I leave school at 5 whenever I can, and I try to have at … Continue reading My ‘Why’
A Year in Review
I haven't blogged in FOREVER. Rest assured that this is because I am insanely busy and then trying to spend time with my wonderful friends and family, rather than the fact I have fallen out of love with teaching. It is far, far from that. I actually think I am more in love with the job … Continue reading A Year in Review
Survival of the Fittest
The past few weeks have been a whirlwind. I think I underestimated how much the first few weeks at a new school and going it alone would take it out of me! As well as the usual getting to know my new classes and colleagues, I've also been on residential with half of Year 9! … Continue reading Survival of the Fittest
My Very Own Classroom
So I spent Thursday and Friday last week getting my classroom in order for September. The idea of having my own room, after a whole year of carting things about in folders from room to room, is very exciting. I'll have everything I need at my fingertips and where I want it to be! I've … Continue reading My Very Own Classroom
The Academy: You’re Hired!
Well the past week or so has been an absolute whirlwind. So much has happened in such a short space of time! Last week I had to hand in my first assignment and first placement review. The assignment was sorted a very long time ago, so all I had to do was press submit online … Continue reading The Academy: You’re Hired!
Week 1 – SO MUCH PAPER! (& an Introduction)
It was suggested to me by the NQT in my department that I start a blog to document my ITT year. She said she did it herself and it's been useful to look back on, for work and nostalgia. So I decided to give it a go. I've started this and my twitter account anonymously … Continue reading Week 1 – SO MUCH PAPER! (& an Introduction)
